Wheelies was first established as a bike shop in 1982 in Swansea and acquired by its current owners in 1989.
Alongside the shop, a mail order division was created in order to supply cycles and accessories nationwide. Wheelies
mail order soon established itself as one of the largest mail order bicycle companies in the UK. The success of the mail
order business helped to establish Wheelies as a nationwide distributor of bicycle goods and in 1992 Wheelies Direct was created.
Wheelies Direct is the Insurance Replacement Department of Wheelies and was established to replace bicycles on behalf of insurance
companies nationwide. In 1995 Wheelies Direct moved to a large, dedicated premises in Swansea Marina, but due to on-going success and
demand for the insurance replacement service, a further expansion was needed and in 1999 Wheelies Direct relocated to an even bigger
site with plenty of room for expansion!
Wheelies Direct now operates from custom designed premises. Our site is set in 1.75 acres and comprises 17,351 square feet of
office, workshop and storage space with plenty of room for expansion both internally and externally. A state of the art call centre
has enabled Wheelies Direct to build upon its position as the market leader in cycle replacement.
The company has been recognised as an Investor in People since 1999. We’ve also become one of only three UK centres of excellence
for training and development of cycle technicians under the Cyctech NVQ training scheme and in October 2002 the company was
accredited with internationally recognised ISO9001 award.
